When the weather heats up, or when you just want a family day out, there are several water parks, indoor water worlds and historic lidos in and around London. From wave pools and flumes to open-air swimming, here is where to make a splash and how to get there.
Indoor water parks
For year-round, weatherproof fun, a handful of large indoor water parks within easy reach of London offer slides, rapids, wave pools and toddler areas. They are ideal for families and are bookable by session, so reserve ahead for weekends and school holidays.
London's lidos and outdoor pools
London has a proud tradition of open-air swimming. Historic lidos and the swimming ponds on Hampstead Heath are wonderful on a hot day, ranging from heated pools to bracing natural bathing. Most are seasonal and can be busy in summer.
Planning your visit
Check opening seasons and book timed entry where required, especially for the big indoor parks and popular lidos. Bring swimwear, towels and a padlock for lockers, and arrive early on hot weekends.
