The Phantom of the Opera is Andrew Lloyd Webber's lavish, romantic masterpiece and one of the most successful musicals of all time, playing at the opulent His Majesty's Theatre, its London home for decades. It is spectacle and melody at their grandest.

About the show

Set in the Paris Opera House, the show follows a disfigured musical genius who haunts the theatre and falls obsessively in love with a young soprano. Famous for its falling chandelier, soaring title song and sumptuous staging, it is a classic for romantics and first-timers alike.

Where to see it and tickets

The Phantom of the Opera London plays at the His Majesty's Theatre in the heart of the West End. Tickets are sold through the official theatre and authorised agents; book ahead for weekends and school holidays. For the cheapest seats, see our guide to cheap theatre tickets, and make an evening of it with things to do in London at night.

Good to know

Arrive 30 minutes early, dress is smart-casual (anything goes in the West End), and most musicals run around two and a half hours with an interval. Pair it with dinner from our restaurants guides and a pre-theatre table in Covent Garden or Soho.
