The Lion King is one of the West End's longest-running and most spectacular musicals, Disney's stage version of the beloved film, famous for its breathtaking opening and Julie Taymor's puppetry and costumes. It is a dazzling, family-friendly night that has wowed London audiences for over two decades.

About the show

Set on the African savannah, the show follows the young lion Simba's journey to reclaim his place as king, told through stunning visual theatre, a score built on Elton John and Tim Rice songs plus African rhythms, and some of the most inventive staging ever seen in the West End. It suits all ages from around six upwards.

Where to see it and tickets

The Lion King London plays at the Lyceum Theatre in the heart of the West End. Tickets are sold through the official theatre and authorised agents; book ahead for weekends and school holidays. For the cheapest seats, see our guide to cheap theatre tickets, and make an evening of it with things to do in London at night.

Good to know

Arrive 30 minutes early, dress is smart-casual (anything goes in the West End), and most musicals run around two and a half hours with an interval. Pair it with dinner from our restaurants guides and a pre-theatre table in Covent Garden or Soho.
