Bayswater is a cosmopolitan district on the northern edge of Hyde Park, a place of white-stucco terraces, grand garden squares and one of London’s most international dining scenes. Convenient and diverse, it makes a handy, characterful base close to the park and Notting Hill.
Where is Bayswater and how to get there
Bayswater lies in west London between Paddington, Notting Hill and Kensington Gardens. It is served by Bayswater and Queensway stations on the District, Circle and Central lines, and the park is on its southern doorstep.
The park, Queensway and beyond
Bayswater’s great asset is Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park, which stretch away to the south with their lakes, fountains and the Diana Memorial. The district’s spine, Queensway, is a bustling, multicultural parade of shops, cafes and restaurants, home to the reborn Whiteleys development. Grand terraces and garden squares fill the streets between.
Eating and drinking
Bayswater is one of the best areas in London for international food, with strong Middle Eastern, Chinese and other communities represented along and around Queensway. It is a place to eat well and cheaply between park walks.
