Les Miserables is the world's longest-running musical, an epic, emotional adaptation of Victor Hugo's novel set against the June Rebellion in 19th-century France. A West End institution, it is the great tear-jerker of musical theatre.

About the show

Following ex-convict Jean Valjean across decades of redemption and revolution, the show is packed with iconic songs including I Dreamed a Dream and One Day More. The sweeping score and staging make it a powerful first West End musical for teens and adults.

Where to see it and tickets

Les Miserables London plays at the Sondheim Theatre in the heart of the West End. Tickets are sold through the official theatre and authorised agents; book ahead for weekends and school holidays. For the cheapest seats, see our guide to cheap theatre tickets, and make an evening of it with things to do in London at night.

Good to know

Arrive 30 minutes early, dress is smart-casual (anything goes in the West End), and most musicals run around two and a half hours with an interval. Pair it with dinner from our restaurants guides and a pre-theatre table in Covent Garden or Soho.
