The Chelsea Physic Garden is London's oldest botanic garden, a tranquil walled enclave beside the Thames in Chelsea, founded in 1673 by the Society of Apothecaries to grow and study medicinal plants. Behind its high brick walls lies a living collection of some 5,000 plants in a microclimate all of its own.

Visiting tips
The garden is ticketed and seasonal, so check opening times before you visit; it can close in deep winter. Sloane Square Tube is the nearest station, near the Saatchi Gallery.
