The IFS Cloud Cable Car is London's only urban cable car, a line of gondolas strung high above the Thames between Greenwich Peninsula and the Royal Docks in the east. Opened in 2012, it is part novelty transport, part low-cost attraction, lifting passengers some 90 metres above the river for one of the cheapest great views in the city.
Why ride it
For the price of a short fare you get a slow, sweeping panorama over east London, the river, the O2 and Canary Wharf. The cabins are fully enclosed and the crossing takes around ten minutes each way, making it an easy, memorable add-on rather than a full day out.
What to see
On a clear day the views stretch from the towers of Canary Wharf to the flood barrier downstream. The Royal Docks side has been steadily regenerated, while the Greenwich side puts you within reach of the O2 and the peninsula's riverside walks.
Visiting tips
It runs daily and accepts contactless, with a small discount when you pay with an Oyster or contactless card; it is not part of a standard Tube fare. North Greenwich (Jubilee line) is the nearest station on the south side. Read more on fares in our Oyster vs contactless guide.
