Up at The O2 is one of London's most distinctive outdoor experiences: a guided climb over the fabric roof of the giant entertainment dome on Greenwich Peninsula. Clipped into a harness and walking a tensioned fabric walkway, you ascend to a viewing platform 52 metres up, with the river, Canary Wharf and the city laid out around you.
Why do the climb
It is the most adventurous viewpoint in the capital, trading a lift ride for a genuine, if gentle, physical challenge. The reward at the summit is a wide panorama over east London and the Thames, and the descent down the far side completes a full traverse of the famous dome.
What to expect
Groups are led by a trained guide and kitted out with a climb suit and harness. The walkway flexes slightly underfoot, adding to the sense of occasion without being strenuous. Sunset and twilight climbs are the most atmospheric, with the city lights coming on as you reach the top.
Visiting tips
Climbs are booked in advance and run in most weather; there is a minimum age and height. The O2 sits on the Jubilee line at North Greenwich, or arrive by river bus or the IFS Cloud Cable Car. Combine it with a show or a meal at The O2.
