A rage room (also called a smash room or anger room) lets you take a baseball bat, crowbar or hammer to plates, electronics and furniture in a controlled, padded space, all kitted out with protective gear. London has several, and they make a brilliant, cathartic group activity, stag or hen idea, or simply a stress-busting hour. Sessions are booked in advance and usually last 20 to 45 minutes.
What to expect in a rage room
You will be issued a boiler suit, gloves, a helmet and a face visor before being shown into a sealed room stacked with breakables, from crockery and glass bottles to printers and old TVs. Staff brief you on safety, then leave you to smash. Most venues let you bring a phone to film it, and some pipe in your own playlist. It is messier and more satisfying than it sounds.
How much it costs and how to book
Expect to pay roughly the price of a cinema-plus-dinner outing per person, with packages scaled by how much stuff you get to destroy and how long you have. Couples and group rates are common, and weekends sell out, so book online ahead of time. Check minimum ages, as most venues are over-18s only or require an adult.
